Asheville Oktoberfest

Have dirndl will travel

We recently traveled to beautiful Asheville, North Carolina for a quick weekend trip. We went to go to the Oktoberfest street/beer festival, and some R&R.

Saturday was the festival, which was on Coxe Avenue, which was closed off to protect us lively, beer drinking pedestrians. With our ticket, we received a tiny stein for tasting the different beers. The street was lined with many different (mostly local) brewery tents, where they kindly filled our mini-steins.

My what a fabulous dirndl!

At the end of the street, there was a fabulous band, the Stratton Mountain Boys. They are super friendly and have a fantastic accordion player! At the Oktoberfest they played traditional Austrian music (and the chicken dance). They even brought along their alpenhorn!

They had an alpenhorn playing contest, which I entered. It was tough! It has a mouthpiece the same size as a trombone. I didn't win, but I sure didn't lose! There was an older woman who couldn't even make a toot.

look at me go!

overachieving friend Erin tried to play the star spangled banner.

Overall, we had a super fun time, and we hope to go back again soon.
